The “Montlouis sur Loire “ AOC (Label of Origin)
vineyards of 350 hectares are within the communes
of Montlouis sur Loire, St Martin le Beau and
Lussault sur Loire.

The vineyards lie mostly on the “Touraine” limestone
(tufa) plateau atop of which clay/silica and clay/chalk
soils have been deposited.

The hillsides draining into the Cher river are oriented
perfectly to give the vineyards incomparable amount
of sunshine.

The Montlouis wines are produced from a sole varietal: CHENIN BLANC,
often known locally as “Pineau de la Loire”! Usually harvested late,
the local “terroir” version generously expresses all its aromas in the
full range of still and sparkling wines.

A locally well-known doggerel

« D’Amboise à Tours, il y a six lieues, Montlouis
est au milieu, on y boit du bon vin vieux »

Which can be roughly translated as:
«Between Tours and Amboise, the Loire flows six leagues
and halfway up, agin the current in a bark Montlouis makes
for a great place to snack and to drink some darn good wine! »
